Description
Inspired by his mother’s work as a critical care nurse while growing up in the LA area, Dr. Urmaza witnessed firsthand how the conditions and environments where people are born, live, learn, work, and play impact their health, and he therefore strives to understand the unique needs of each individual patient. Dr. Urmaza went to medical school at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California where he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. Dr. Urmaza’s healthcare career began during his family medicine residency at the UNLV School of Medicine. Dr. Urmaza was honored with the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Resident Teacher award. He also served as a research program fellow at UC Irvine while pursuing his Bachelor of Science degree. He is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. During his residency, Dr. Urmaza worked with Tar Wars Las Vegas in which he educated elementary students regarding tobacco abstinence. He has also worked with Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada to help patients without medical insurance.
